First Day Success!
Our first day was great! Everybody came to school ready to learn today. We got started learning right away!
This morning we read Pete the Cat: Rocking in my School Shoes. We had fun singing Pete's song!

When we finished the book, we found a note from Pete! This led us on a tour of the school. We had fun checking out the cafeteria, music room, library, and office. Unfortunately we never found Pete but he did leave us some notes and in the end he left us some coloring pages.
Later, we read first day First Day Jitters and talked about our first day feelings.
I introduced literacy stations to the kids today and they did great.
We began with two today and will build up to four very soon.
Here are some of the things the kids were working on during stations:
We also put together our name chart.
During math, we talked about our math tools and explored unifix cubes.
We ended our day with social stations. We talked about how this is a time for being a good friend. Throughout the year we will focus on different social skills for practice during social stations. This week our focus in on making new friends.
I am looking forward to day two! :)
Please email me with any questions or concerns. I know it may be hard to wait until next week for orientation!

The Night Before Kindergarten

Tomorrow is our big day! Everyone that I talk to is encouraging me to rest and spend time at home. But I am so excited I can hardly stay away from school and when I am home I'm thinking about school. I truly love what I do and am anxious to begin the year.
I know that although this is also an exciting time for the families of my students, it also brings many other emotions. This is such a special time in your lives with a big transition for your babies. I want the parents of my students to know that I appreciate so much the trust that you have in me. My responsibility is great and I do not take it lightly. I feel honored to give your children their first school experiences and I want to give them and their parents the best kindergarten experience possible.
One of my favorite bloggers, Kelle Hampton, wrote about sending her five year old to Kindergarten last year. I love her honesty about the bittersweet feelings that come with this new chapter of life. She conveys these feelings in such a beautiful way. I encourage you to check it out here.
I am thrilled to get started on this journey together. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any thoughts or questions that you may I have. Don't forget: Parent Orientation is September 3rd at 6pm. :)
Rest Up! We have a big week.
Willie Rabbit is at home with tonight assisting with final preparations. :)
