Our First Week in Kindergarten

FirstWeek2015 from Caitlin Hollar on Vimeo.

Thank YOU!

Parents,

Thank you so much for your support and involvement this week.
We are off to a great start in kindergarten!

Thank you for the kind emails, positive blog comments, sweet notes in folders,
classroom donations, and gifts! You have been so kind to me and I am very appreciative.
Your positive feedback about school means the world to me.
Thank you!

I want the parents of my students to know that I appreciate so much the trust that you have in me. My responsibility is great and I do not take it lightly. I feel very privileged to give your children their first school experiences.

The transition into kindergarten is such a special time and I am so glad to be a part of your child's school journey. One of my favorite bloggers, Kelle Hampton, wrote about sending her five year old to Kindergarten. I love her honesty about the bittersweet feelings that come with this new chapter of life. She conveys these feelings in such a beautiful way. I encourage you to check it out by clicking HERE.

I am thrilled to get started on this journey together. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any thoughts or questions that you may I have.

We are Writers!

We started writing this week! We have learned the three steps that authors use every time they write: think, draw, write! Then we talked about how writers get their ideas!

Keep watching the blog for more on our writing!

Good writers write about things they know about and things they care about.

We are making great choices at school!

Going over recess rules:

We made some classroom goals:

We Are Readers!

We are very excited to begin learning about independent reading next week!

We will learn how good readers can read to themselves.

But before we can do that... We had to prepare our book boxes for the books that will fill them!

Taking Turns!

We played a little game to practice taking turns!

Day Two

We had a great day two! Here are a few snapshots! :)

This morning we discussed doing our very best kindergarten work! We learned that taking our time and using many colors makes our work look nice.

During math, we explored more math tools!

Social Stations:

We met some super special friends this morning! Ask your kindergartener about these guys!

A little glimpse into our first day of school

We started our morning by reading Pete the Cat: Rocking in My School Shoes.
We had fun singing his song!

We talked about some of the things we want to do at school each day and made a class promise. We all signed our name on the promise.

During math, we explored our classroom math tools. We learned the difference between toys and tools and talked about some of the things our tools can be used for (sorting, counting, etc.)

We did a great job in the cafeteria for lunch!

And just before we went home, we played at social stations with friends!

We had a wonderful first day! Looking forward to tomorrow!
