Chicks in Kindergarten

Mrs. Wagoner's kindergarten class has been raising baby chick eggs and this week they hatched! Our class had the privilege to be involved in the journey as they invited us to join in on some chick lessons and even to hold the chicks!

Mrs. Skinner from Texas A&M's AgriLife extension has visited our school to lead the lessons and share her knowledge. It has been a joy to watch the children learn from her about the life cycle of a chicken.

Two weeks ago we learned about the inside of the egg by creating a play-doh model.

Last week, we learned how to candle an egg... giving us a glimpse inside. We learned about the stages that the chick goes through as it gets ready to hatch from the egg.

And after 21 days, the chicks have hatched! See more pictures in the video below!

Caterpillars

We have some new friends in our classroom! Each student has their very own caterpillar to observe and take care of as it grows up. We are journaling our observations each day.
