On Friday, we celebrated the season with our reading buddies by making gingerbread houses. The kids had so much fun!

Sending Love

My heart is heavy this weekend after the tragic events at Sandy Hook Elementary.

My students are consuming my thoughts this weekend.
I want to take this opportunity to let you know how much I love each one.

Kind Kids Club

Our class is spreading kindness throughout the school!

Last week I told the kids that I found this is my box and read it to them.

They agreed that they could certainly be a part of this club!

On Monday we filled out our applications. I sent them off to the
Kind Kids Club authorities for them to look over.

On Tuesday, we recieved this letter! We were very excited!

We opened the box to receive our first assignment!

"make thank you cards for our lunch staff"

We got to work right away on cards for the ladies that help us at lunch everyday!

The ladies in the lunchroom were so happy with the cards that we made and
brownies that we dropped off!
(Thank you to one of our moms for making the brownies! I was still hearing rave reviews today!)

Today, our assignment was to deliver treats to Mrs. Katt, our principal and Mrs. Chenault, our assistant principal!

The kids drew portraits of Mrs. Katt and Mrs. Chenault to deliver along with the treats!

We have had a good time in these first two days learning how good it feels to fill the buckets of others! There are still many people on our list to treat to a Christmas surprise.

If you would like to help by sending in a small treat, it would be very helpful with our project! :)

Survey

We have been practicing using tally marks, counting by 5's, and graphing by conducting surveys.
On Tuesday, we were asking each other "Do you prefer dogs or cats?"

Practice tally marks at home by counting the number of chairs, pets, people, beds, TV's, outlets, etc. that you have in your home. Bring in your work for a prize!

We are working hard on learning to count by 5's in order to read our tally marks.

Glitter Season

I like to say that from Halloween to Valentines is glitter season. I am a crafter and tis the season for projects! Don't worry, as far as the kids know, there are only four seasons!

On Friday, we celebrated glitter season with a few projects in the classroom.

Classroom Giving Project Update

Thank you to those of who responded to the survey. I am so glad that you are willing to help.

After thinking about it, I have decided to do a different type of project that what I had previously mentioned.

Before we left school on Friday, I told the kids that I found a flyer in my box looking for children to join the kind kids club. The kids were sure that they could do all the things the flyer mentioned!

We will fill out applications to join tomorrow morning. I will later reveal that our class has been asked to join the Kind Kids Club (wink wink).  We will come up with ideas that we can do something nice for those that help us. From now until we get out for Christmas, we will be given a "Random Act of Kindness Assignment". This will include making cards and sharing treats with our lunch monitors, our administrators, our CAMP teachers, our librarian, the custodians that keep our classroom clean, and others.

I feel that this type of project will allow the students to be very involved in making the days of the individuals that are relevant in their own lives.

I hope that some of you might be willing to help us collect small gifts to express our thanks to those in our school that help our class be successful each day. Baked goods, $5 Starbucks or Sonic gift cards, or other small gifts are what I am thinking. Or if you would like to make a cash donation that would be great. Please email or call if you have any questions or comments about anything. :)

Thanks again for your help in allowing our students to take part in this season of giving.

We CAN give back!

Thank you for sendning in cans for the food drive. We were each able to add one can or boxed food to the donation boxes. It filled our buckets to help others!

Classroom Giving Project

Parents,

In the spirit of holiday giving, I was considering doing a classroom giving project. For the project, we would adopt a local family in need of help this season. Our class would gather toys and clothes for the family in need and wrap them.  Of course, for the project to be successful we will need the support of you guys. I understand that many of you may do something like this as a family so I wanted to get your feedback before I made the decision to commit to the project.

Please think about whether or not your family would like to participate in this service project. If you can help out, let me know what you can contribute by filling out the form below. Your response is anonymous. I will use the feedback to make a good decision about the project.

If you have any questions or comments, don't hesitate to email me.

Thank you! :)
