Nonfiction gives Information! :)

Today we learned that non-fiction books give information. We can learn new things from books! About anything! We made a list of our interests and Miss A helped us get books on all of our interests.
We used library books and classroom books to create a non-fiction library right in our room!
We will use these books over the next few weeks to learn more about non-fiction books, and practice gaining information from books!

Illustrator Visit

Michael P. White came to our school last week and was a blast!

Silent E

The boys and girls are becoming very observant of the spelling patterns in words around them. With more reading, comes more discoveries. We have learned that vowels can make two sounds, a long and a short sound. However, learning the long vowel patterns can be tricky.

We are beginning these long vowel patterns by looking at words that follow
CVCe (consonant vowel consonant, silent e).

Recently we practiced writing words that follow this pattern while squeezing in some high energy activities in between!

Word Study

Each day we begin with word study. By doing different activities each day we are learning the spelling rules we need to know for reading and writing. The students are building their spelling knowledge every day! It is so exciting to see their word study skills transfer to their reading and writing.

Happy Birthday Lily!

The students worked very hard on the watercolor illustrations.
